Making a Positive difference
Wichita City Councilman Jim Skelton has made the decision to continue his public service by filing for Election to the Sedgwick County Commission District 5. “I can offer the vision, leadership and decision making that is needed in our great county” remarked Skelton. Skelton has been involved in public for service many years. Past Service includes boards such as The Wichita & Sedgwick County Floodplain Task Force, Wichita Board of Housing Commissioners, Wichita Board of Zoning appeals, and the District 3 Advisory Board. Skelton is also currently the Chairman of Sedgwick County Association of Cities.
Skelton has sponsored many projects for improving Wichita and Sedgwick County. Some include building partnerships for the current ongoing reconstruction of the 47th street South and I-135 interchange, Construction of flood protection and landscaping to the Gypsum and Dry Creeks, the reconstruction of Mt. Vernon between Broadway and the Arkansas River, and the new fire station on S. Hydraulic. Skelton has also worked on the development of many parks in his southeast district.
Councilman Skelton is concerned about the lack of progress in addressing the jail overcrowding at the county. “I believe we need to have a vision for a long term solution”. Skelton believes the County needs to build a jail based on the long term that incorporates operational efficiency through building design, saving taxpayer money in the long term.
Also important to Skelton are solid waste issues that need to be explored by Sedgwick County government. “The County Government should explore a regional landfill that has recycling facilities, a composting landfill, and follow practices that minimize what trash is going into the ground.
Skelton also pledges to use his relationships he’s built while serving as the Chairman of Sedgwick County Association of Cities and as Wichita City Councilman. “I am eager to begin work with constituents in all cities in Sedgwick County. I will use my established relationships as a foundation for conducting business based on trusting communication” Skelton is noted for involving constituents in decision making processes.
Skelton is committed to forming permanent District Advisory Boards, appointed to gain citizen input on issues such as zoning, budgeting, emergency service, road construction, drainage and other issues that go to the County Commission for vote. Jim Skelton always thinks of his constituents as customers and strives to return calls quickly and find solutions that solve public problems. Jim Skelton has served on the Wichita City Council for the past 5 years, has owned a family business for twenty years, and has two beautiful daughters Melissa and Macey.
